The ancient sport of dragon boat racing is the fastest growing water sport in the world. It is a team sport in its purest form, and encompasses the elements of power, speed, synchronization and endurance. Twenty paddlers, one steers, and one drummer work in total harmony. We have two 20-person boats and are based in Old Homosassa and train on the beautiful Homosassa River.
This is an exciting and exhilarating sport! It is our mission to introduce those with the desire and physical capacity to become proficient in the art of dragon boat racing -- and then race to win! Advanced level coaching and equipment is available to all new paddlers. All fitness levels are welcome; it's our goal to train you to succeed. We encourage a healthy lifestyle through physical activity.
Let this be a regular part of your workout routine and train to become a dragon boater. As a competitive dragon boat racing club, we enter many dragon boat festivals throughout the year. Festivals offer 10-person mini-boat and 20-person boat options; we participate in both with mixed gender and women-only race teams.
As a nonprofit, our club performs community service activities throughout the year. We also love to have fun and enjoy socializing off the water - we train hard and play hard!
Our club does not discriminate based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, age, national/ethnic origin, or political beliefs.
New paddlers are always welcome, so sign up here on MeetUp for a practice and try out the sport we love.
Our club has adopted a 2 mile stretch of Halls River Rd. between Grotto Ct/Blue Springs Ct, and Swiftwater Way/ Grey Pelican Way. 8-10 members are needed for this event. The County provides our safety vests, bags, and gloves ... sturdy shoes might be a good idea. We will meet inside the entrance of Nature's Resort RV Park for a job brief at 8:30. An alternative date due to weather will be August 15th. Breakfast at Luigi's is possible following the clean-up.
