I have obtained permission from the Tsawout First Nation to conduct a field trip at Cordova Spit (Saanichton Spit). The greater part of the spit is an ecological reserve that preserves unique coastal beach flora. We will walk the beach to the end of the spit to enjoy the evening light, the birds and the flora.
We will need to meet to carpool, only because parking is limited and since we are driving through the reserve, I'd like to keep the "convoy" of cars as small as possible. There is a small parking lot at the end of Mount Newton Cross Road where we can meet.
If you turn right at the intersection of Mt Newton X road and the Pat Bay Hwy (by the McDonalds), and keep going straight after stopping at Lochside Drive, there is a small road that drops down into a parking lot for Saanichon Bay Park on the left as the road turns right.
Bring footwear for beach sand and gravel walking.
