Maine Coast and the Puffins Photo Workshops and Tours

Join us on a photo tour to the beautiful Maine coastline with professional photographer John Slonina.

Embark on an adventure photographing wildlife and stunning landscape by land and sea. We will be visiting some of our favorite places to photograph including Acadia National Park, Campobello Island (Canada), Schoodic Peninsula, and the eastern most point in the US.

Experience the magic of the rugged rocky coast and soaring granite cliffs where the mountains meet the sea. We also will be taking two boat rides to an island to photograph puffins, razorbills, and seals. We have other boat rides to see more lighthouses and seals at sunset.

June is a great time to photograph this awesome area including beautiful forests, mountain peaks, wildflowers, birds, lakes, streams, waterfalls, lighthouses, tide pools, and carriage roads etc. We also will be on the lookout for park wildlife including eagles, seals, deer, beavers, eiders, and foxes. There is a lot less traffic because it is before peak tourist season (July-September).

Be one of first people to see and photograph the rising sun in the country. The days are paced to maximize photo opportunities and the schedule will be flexible to maximize getting the best light.

From the blinds on the island we will photograph puffins, razorbills, and terns. Some of the birds are just a few feet away. On the boat ride back we will look for seals. The boat ride is included in the tour fee. On the ride back we will explore some hidden gems and quaint fishing harbors, lighthouses and seaside cliffs.

Anyone with a interest in photography from a beginner to professional photographer who has a love of being outdoors and nature.

Group size:
Our groups are small in size. This group size allows for flexibility in our plans if interesting and unexpected photo opportunities present themselves. Also, it will allow us to work with each participate to provide complete, informative, helpful lessons.

Goals: The entire workshop is devoted to capturing the best nature images possible. John draws upon his decades of experience as a professional photographer to offer several methods to improve your nature photography. John will share numerous proven beginner thru advanced techniques.

Before and after each workshop we will access each participants needs, interests and skills so we can teach techniques that will help each participant. Whether you are a beginner or seasoned pro we will help you grow as a photographer. At the end of the workshop you will be able to comfortably apply these tools and start your own unique style.

Skills and Fitness Level:
Anyone with an interest in nature photography from beginner to professional photographer. The participants should have a love of nature and enjoy the company of other people in a small group setting.
This trip will involve some short hikes from 1 to 3 miles some hikes may have slippery or uneven terrain.

About Me:
John Slonina is a professional nature photographer who has been photographing the nature for over 30 years. He has been published in multiple books, magazines, and calendars. He has a love of natural history as well. You will receive education not just in photo technique, but also in the natural world. Understanding the natural world not only increases your appreciation of nature but also helps you become a better nature photographer.

Join us on an Alaska bear photo tour. This is the ultimate bear photography trip. Our journey will take us to a wild river boasting some of the highest concentration of bears on Earth. Our last trip we photographed 25-50 different bears a day.

New for 2026: We will have an optional one day fly out to the famous Brooks Camp.

We will be staying in a different lodge than years past, and our means of transportation to photograph the bears will be by small boat. We will have the opportunity to capture stunning bear photos from the boat, in the river, and on land. Minimal walking will be required during this experience.

The lodge is an incredible place and highly sought after, so much so that we had to secure our reservation three years in advance. A future documentary will be released on Netflix this year filmed in part on location at this lodge.

This tour presents an extraordinary chance for a thrilling adventure that only a select few will ever encounter. It's a once-in-a-lifetime journey that you will never forget.

Our main goal for this tour is to capture breathtaking photographs of magnificent bears, with the added advantage of encountering adorable bear cubs during this prime season. Throughout the trip, we will have the opportunity to photograph numerous bears fishing. We will spend several hours observing and capturing their behavior. Besides the bears, eagles, osprey, and moose are often photographed. There are occasional wolf sightings as well as fox, mink, beaver, river otter, owls, northern harrier, and peregrine falcon.

Are you fascinated by the idea of capturing breathtaking images of bears chasing salmon in a river? Would you like to witness the sight of bears dashing through the water, pouncing on migrating salmon? Our trip is strategically planned during the anticipated peak salmon migration season when the bears are feeding.

The bears found in these areas will have access to salmon, their primary food source, and have grown accustomed to the presence of both fishermen and photographers in the vicinity. Over time, they have learned to coexist with their fellow bears and the fortunate few who have the privilege of visiting this secluded region. Although maintaining a safe distance, we can still observe these magnificent animals up close.
