The Joy of Not-Scale Development
Details
Abstract:
“At-scale” isn’t just a buzzword. For some it’s a goal: the pinnacle of modern software development. But unless you’re one of the handful of companies with global availability to millions of users, at-scale techniques are overly complex and what’s more, they’re not very joyful to work with. Microservices, CSS-in-JS and feature flags are all examples of ideas that warp software development at scale. This talk is a reminder that at-scale is not a pinnacle but just another destination on the map. There’s plenty of joy to be found in not-scale solutions too, and that’s okay.
