We are starting 2019 with a little twist on our much loved apocalyptic/dystopic futures stories – one set in Central Florida! I grew up in Greater Orlando and maybe my school was a little odd, but they had us read this in 8th grade. Nothing like a book set pretty much in your town about the end of the world to inspire and shape young minds. Well, actually maybe it worked – I’m hosting this book club, aren’t I?
Book summary from Goodreads:
"Alas, Babylon." Those fateful words heralded the end. When a nuclear holocaust ravages the United States, a thousand years of civilization are stripped away overnight, and tens of millions of people are killed instantly. But for one small town in Florida, miraculously spared, the struggle is just beginning, as men and women of all backgrounds join together to confront the darkness.
This month's restaurant selection:
Noble Crust combines two of the current hottest cuisines – Northern Italian and Southern – in a way that makes almost no sense on paper but is delicious – really. The brunch menu should be available for our visit, but it does include many of the traditional dinner entrees as well.
