Nerd Nite is a monthly event during which several folks give fun-yet-informative presentations across all disciplines – while the audience drinks along. It's like the Discovery Channel… with beer! This month's speakers and topics:
1) Where Is Everybody?: Space and the Fermi Paradox
by Melissa Blundell-Osorio, Nerd Nite Boss
According to some estimates, there should be 100,000 intelligent civilizations in our galaxy. So, where are they? Come learn about the different possible explanations space nerds have proposed to explain the Fermi paradox - the apparent contradiction between the high probability estimates for intelligent life on other planets and the total lack of evidence.
Melissa has been a Nerd Nite Miami Boss since co-founding it in 2014. During the day, she's the Director of Education at the World Erotic Art Museum. Her professional nerdy interests are in human behavior, psychology, and anthropology, particularly when it comes to sex and beauty. Learning about astronomy is one of her favorite hobbies.

2) Deadly Roads and Mobile UX
by Claudio Luis Vera
What does the deadliest road in Florida have to do with sexually transmitted infections? Find out in this Nerd Nite presentation, which will take an honest look at our compulsion to check our devices, even while we’re driving.
Claudio Luis Vera is a 25-year veteran of building user experiences for the web and mobile devices. He now commutes far too much on Miami roads and works as an accessibility expert, ensuring that digital content can be enjoyed by all regardless of physical ability.

by Paola Rodriguez
Come and learn about the art of intimacy and sexuality. We are often bombarded with myths around sexuality and what relationships “should” look like. Enjoy learning in an interactive presentation about what is really a myth ad what is a fact.
Paola Rodriguez has worked as a psychotherapist for 17 years. Paola graduated from Nova Southeastern University and obtained her CBT certification at Boston University School of Social Work in 2013. Her latest endeavor since September 2013 is becoming a certified sex therapist. She is currently a member of AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) and completed the sex therapy postgraduate training program at Columbia University.
