What we're about

"Nerds. Once a tortured subrace of humans condemned to hiding in dark corners from the brutal hand of social torment... now, captains of industry!" - Chris Hardwick

This is a book club for those of you who are interested in the kind of books that explore all of the great themes of science fiction, fantasy and horror -- like what, exactly, happens to the bourgeoisie in a zombie apocalypse (hint: they taste just like everyone else). We'll read everything from your bog standard literary novel to graphic novels, and maybe the occasional non-fiction nerd memoir (or "nermoir").

Our monthly meetings consist of 30 minutes of introductions, followed by a group book discussion. Members are free to hang out after the discussion, and, you know, be all social and stuff.

Occasionally we will also attend movies and other nerdtastic events in and around OC. If you have any event suggestions, let one of the organizers know!

Nerds & Terrible Movies: The Hero Yoshihiko & Cats

Online event

Join us for a quarantine edition of movies so bad, they're good! We will warm up by once again watching an episode of the 2011 Japanese TV show The Hero Yoshihiko. The protagonist is "an inept hero who sets out to find the cure to a plague, but ends up fighting a larger evil. Yoshihiko is guided by a comedic Buddha, and accompanied by an incompetent wizard, a woman who wants to kill Yoshihiko because she thinks he killed her father, and a warrior who will kill Yoshihiko as soon as the warrior finishes telling Yoshihiko his stories." The main feature will be last year's heavily derided Cats. Do I need to say any more? We will be watching and chatting through Discord. Send me (Josh) a message for an invite to the server.

Guards! Guards! By Terry Pratchett

Online event

Clicking the Zoom link should bypass the need to enter a password, but just in case it is 3XWjKP. Long believed extinct, a superb specimen of draco nobilis ("noble dragon" for those who don't understand italics) has appeared in Discworld's greatest city. Not only does this unwelcome visitor have a nasty habit of charbroiling everything in its path, in rather short order it is crowned King (it is a noble dragon, after all...). How did it get there? How is the Unique and Supreme Lodge of the Elucidated Brethren of the Ebon Night involved? Can the Ankh-Morpork City Watch restore order – and the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork to power? Magic, mayhem, and a marauding dragon...who could ask for anything more?
