Net2Ist January Meeting will host the co-founder of startsomegood.com initiative; Tom Dawkins through Skype.
Start Some Good taps into the power of the crowd, allowing social entrepreneurs to ask for small amounts of money from lots of different people - rather than hope for one lump sum. This crowdfunding model is becoming increasingly well-established, especially in the arts, and startsomegood believes it is perfect for supporting the launch and development of social impact initiatives.
In this meeting Tom will explain his personal journey with startsomegood.com and he is going to give us broad picture of crowdfunding models -- which is growing in popularity world-wide. At the end of the session, we will have the opportunity to ask him our questions directly.
Tom Dawkins is a member of the YAN (Youth Action Net) Class of 2007, when he was working on Vibewire Youth Media Inc, a non-profit he had founded while at university. After eight years of building Vibewire he handed over the reins to new leadership and went traveling in 2008, ending up in Washington DC working for Ashoka: Innovators for the Public, exploring how social media could help create an everyone a changemaker world.From his exposure to other YAN Fellows and so many other inspiring young changemakers he knows the world is full of passionate people with great ideas ready to make a difference.
