Scientists are increasingly inventing creative ways to use EEG to study consciousness.

Join us for an online discussion and hear how Dr. Joel Frohlich, UCLA neuroscientist, uses electroencephalography or EEG to discover unique signatures of consciousness.

Cutting edge methodologies are answering critical questions:
What patterns of brain activity show us that a person is conscious?
Why do children with a rare genetic disorder show the brain activity of someone who is sleeping while wide awake?
And will floating in darkness become a transformative therapy for anxiety disorders?

We will dive deep into his research and process.

We will explore the challenges he faces at the cutting edge of science, how he solves problems to push neuroscience forward, and learn what's coming next in neuroscience.

This event is meant to inspire action.

In learning about the problems Dr. Frohlich faces, this session will give attendees multiple opportunities to contribute & participate. This includes a Q&A session and the ability to sign up for a hackathon to help further Dr. Frohlich's research.

Dr. Frohlich received his PhD in neuroscience from UCLA in 2018 and is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the Monti Lab at UCLA. He is also a columnist and former editor in chief of Knowing Neurons, a neuroscience education website, and his writing has appeared in online publications such as The Atlantic, Aeon, Nautilus, and Psychology Today.
