The 'How' of Neuroplasticity with Art & Mindfulness
How can the Creative Process and Mindfulness techniques reroute neural pathways in the brain to support optimal mental health?
In this workshop will explore just that!
So many of us have been struggling with mental health after a very difficult couple years; finding the right solution can be exhausting! In this workshop we will explore how using Art and Mindfulness techniques can contribute to healing and actually change neural pathways in the brain for optimal mental wellbeing.
Join Art Therapist, Registered Therapeutic Counsellor, Yoga/Meditation teacher, and Somatic Practitioner Charmaine Husum DKATI, RTC, CT, as we discuss and experience the power that art and mindfulness have on moving through difficult times in life. If you have been feeling the heaviness that life can bring or are just curious on ways to shift towards optimal happiness and joy, this workshop is for you.
You do not need to be an artist to receive the benefits of using art in therapy and you don’t need to be a seasoned meditator to tap into the resource of using breath to create a sense of calm.
The idea of using art in psychotherapy has been around since the early days of Carl Jung. It is through the making of art that feelings trapped inside the body can be moved and expanded on, bringing an awareness to ourselves that was before uncovered. Integrating psycho-therapeutic techniques with the creative process helps people resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, achieve insight, and improve mental health and well-being (American Art Therapy Association, 2013). Art Therapy can help a person give expression to their feelings and hidden inner conflicts that they may not have words for by bringing unconscious feelings to consciousness. When we add mindfulness and breathwork to this exploration, we further instill lasting healing tools somatically, to create lifelong and effective change.
COST: Free
MATERIALS NEEDED: Paper and writing device or any art materials of your choice. (Although all one needs is a writing device, the benefits of art therapy expand when we have a large selection of materials to choose from)
