What we're about

Seeking to gather a group of wild, wonderful, persistent women. I am new to New Hampshire, and am interested in forming a salon: "a gathering of people under the roof of an inspiring host, held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine the taste and increase the knowledge of the participants through conversation. These gatherings often consciously followed Horace's definition of the aims of poetry, "either to please or to educate" (from Wikipedia). A group to read books, watch movies, share meals, and be inspired by one another.

Discuss: Middlemarch by George Elliot

Claire's home

Our classic read for the year, set in the fictitious Midlands town of Middlemarch during the years[masked], George Eliot's "Middlemarch" is a work of epic scope filled with numerous characters, which explores a plethora of themes including the status of women, the nature of marriage, idealism and self-interest, religion and hypocrisy, political reform, and education. Considered one of the great works of the English language, George Eliot's "Middlemarch" was immensely popular upon original publication and remains one of the finest examples of the author's prolific and accomplished literary career. Refreshments will be served.

Planning! What do YOU want to talk about?

Bring your ideas for TED talks, films and books. For the latter, think about different genres. A memoir, something non-fiction, some contemporary novels, and a classic you want to tackle. Refreshments will be served.
