Dear Impact Aficionados,
Join us for our next NEIII event on Thurs. Feb. 23 from 6-8pm at Goodwin LLP in the Seaport district. Goodwin is thrilled to host our group and, since they are covering the full costs of the event, have asked us not to charge an entry fee, so come for free!
We are excited to feature two sector leaders working on the international and domestic sides of the global impact investing spectrum: Root Capital (https://www.rootcapital.org/) and Social Finance (http://socialfinance.org/)!
Representing international impact, we will be joined by Willy Foote (https://www.rootcapital.org/about-us/team/willy-foote) of Root Capital, an agricultural impact investing organization that grows rural prosperity in poor, environmentally vulnerable places in Africa and Latin America by lending capital, delivering financial training, and strengthening market connections for small and growing agricultural businesses. Willy has a fascinating story of what led him into impact investing and has a wealth of experience to share from Root Capital's 17 years working to foster rural prosperity worldwide. If we're lucky, Willy may even bring his guitar to play a few original pieces he's written about Root Capital's work. Music is what drives us at Root Capital, and no time like winter to brighten spirits with a song or two!
Representing domestic impact, we will be joined by Navjeet Bal (http://socialfinance.org/team/navjeet-k-bal/) of Social Finance, an organization dedicated to mobilizing capital to drive social progress. Social Finance designs and manages public-private partnerships that tackle complex social challenges, such as achievement gaps, health disparities, and prisoner recidivism. Core to their work is the development of Pay for Success financing, also referred to as Social Impact Bonds. Navjeet has had a distinguished career as a public finance attorney and a public official, and she represented the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in negotiating and documenting its ground-breaking Pay for Success contracts addressing juvenile justice and chronic homelessness.
More so than doing a formal presentation, our presenters are interested having a conversation with all of you, so after an introduction to their work, we will open the floor for a deep-dive conversation on the challenges and opportunities of international and domestic impact investing.
We will use the second hour for a couple of interactive activities that will help you to get to know the people in the room. For the after party, we will head to Bastille Kitchen (Chalet Lounge) to continue our conversations while enjoying a few libations. Below are more details about the venue and how to get there. We look forward to having you join us!
