Founded in 2001, Acumen has since established itself as a highly lauded, household name in the impact investing world. Acumen uses market-based solutions to develop new tools for solving some of the world’s toughest problems. Acumen has invested over $110 million to build more than 102 social enterprises in countries like Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Pakistan, India, Colombia, the U.S. and others. Acumen operates under the principle of looking at all human beings as members of a single, global community where everyone has the right opportunity to build a life of dignity.

Alberto Gomez-Obregon, Acumen’s Director of Portfolio, will discuss how Acumen was transformed from one great idea by Jacqueline Novogratz to having built companies around the world that have created and supported 60,000 jobs, leveraged an additional $522 million, and brought basic services like affordable education, health care, clean water, energy and sanitation to more than 200 million people. Alberto has a wide purview into the history of Acumen’s portfolio and can speak to direct experience with what investments have proven successful. Alberto will also explore the concept of Patient Capital through which Acumen bridges the gap between the efficiency and scale of market-based approaches and the social impact of pure philanthropy. Come learn how Acumen dares to generate lasting, meaningful impact in communities where markets have failed and aid has fallen short.
