Kotlin Meetup - Advanced Ktor, KotlinConf Recap & Kotlin-Swift Interop

Details
Happy New Year!
The next NYC Kotlin Meetup will be happening on Wednesday January 22th 2020 at AlphaSights - 350 Madison Ave, 12th floor.
Talks:
Advanced Ktor -- Jile Gao
Jile works as a full-time Kotlin Backend developer using Spring Boot. In his spare time he has been experimenting with Ktor, a framework for building servers and a great alternative to Spring if the backend is in Kotlin. In this talk we'll go the basics of responding to various HTTP methods using Ktor. Then we'll drive into some more advanced topics like sessions and finish off by explaining some of the other features of the framework.
KotlinConf 2019 Recap -- Brent Watson
We'll take a few minutes to talk about some of the announcements from KotlinConf 2019, discuss some of the more interesting talks from the conference, and look ahead on what to expect from Kotlin and JetBrains in 2020.
Effective Kotlin-Swift Interoperability -- John Rodriguez
Over the past year, Multiplatform Fever has swept the world with the promise of code sharing between iOS and Android codebases. But how does it really work? What compromises have to be made by both platforms in order to achieve this goal?
We'll chat about:
- How do Swift consumers interact with Kotlin code?
- What problems does ObjC bring to the table?
- What are some fundamental differences between Swift and Kotlin today?
- What are the performance implications?
...and more!
Location: Thank you to AlphaSights for hosting and providing food and drinks. When you arrive someone will be at the entrance checking ids and directing you where to go.
Speaker Bios:
Jile Gao, majored in computer science, worked a lot with custom protocols in the past. Currently working server-side at American Express where HTTP calls are prevalent.
