The New York / New Jersey Polyamory Meetup Group Pages

Welcome to the New York Polyamory Meetup Group! We welcome anyone and everyone who is, has been, or might be poly, as well as people who think polyfolk are cool folk to hang out with. We meet for dinner or a game of pool a few times a month to talk about love, sex, commitment, honesty, Palm Pilots, cooking, computer geekery, books, and pretty much anything else that comes to mind. We also keep you posted on other groups in New York City and surrounding area including their indispensable discussion groups.

The meetups are not a "meat market", nor are they a gateway to a wild world of orgies and partner-swapping. They exist to provide a warm and welcoming sense of community to poly, poly-curious, and poly-friendly people in the New York area. To support this goal, we ask that you refrain from posting personal ads and overtly sexual messages on our message board. At the meetups themselves, behave as you would at any other informal dinner party. Please leave your preconceptions at the door and come prepared to have a relaxed good time in a fun, social, no-pressure atmosphere. For more information, see our page on the meetup's history and etiquette.

A note about dating: This, as well as the Women's group, are not the proper venues to seek dating partners. That being said, here are some of the more appropriate places to actually meet people when you are ready:

-Poly-friendly dating websites. Ok Cupid is fast becoming one of the most queer and poly friendly dating sites around. Also, there is Polymatchmaker.com and Polyamorous NYC's personals page.

-Poly Cocktail Hour. This event is held monthly (every 2nd Monday) at at China 1, 50 Avenue B at 4th St., and is a social event with a diverse crowd geared more towards meeting potential partners. This is not an excuse to be disrespectful and hit on everyone in the room. As with most things, it's better to go in with no particular expectations.

Donations:We request a completely voluntary contribution of $1 a month to keep the meetup going. As you may know, Meetup.com charges $12 a month for use of their site. Please help to defray this expense if you find that you enjoy the meetups and would like them to keep happening.

My name is Joe and I'm the group organizer as of December, 2009. I look forward to welcoming you at any one of our upcoming meetups. When you join up, please fill out your profile and orient yourself to the website and events. Feel free to email me, or Larry, the Assistant Organizer, with any questions or comments. And again, welcome!

NEW:We have started a new Discussion Group for poly women. Check it out: A Women's Poly Group. Please contact Sylwia, your organizer, if you are interested in being placed on a separate email list for the Women's Poly group.
