October Meeting

Middletown Free Library

The next session of the NYRB Book Club will follow up on the discussion we began in our last meeting, regarding the history and influence of the evangelical movement in American society. Please come prepared by reading the two articles that have been selected for this purpose: 1) "Where Evangelicals Came From," by Garry Wills (NYRB, April 20, 2017), a review of "The Evangelicals: The Struggle to Shape America," by Frances FitzGerald. The discussion will be led by Ted Mosher. 2) "In God's Country," by Elizabeth Breunig (Washington Post, August 14, 2019), an effort to discover why such a large percentage of Evangelicals have aligned themselves with President Trump and his policies. The discussion will be led by Joanne Carmine. I will provide pdf copies of both articles as an attachment to a forthcoming email to all members. I look forward to seeing you at our next gathering. Charlie
