What we're about

NewBo Open Coffee started in August 2012 shortly after John Schnipkoweit returned from a trip to Colorado, where he saw a startup community putting together a number of great events like Open Coffee Meetups. A conversation with David Tominsky at Vault Coworking and Collaboration Space helped launch the first NBOCC meeting at Brewed Cafe in the New Bohemia District of Cedar Rapids.

When Brewed Cafe changed ownership from Richard Marceau to Steve Shriver the name changed to Brewhemia. Brewhemia moved across the street and NewBo Open Coffee moved with it.

Josh McNary stepped up to help organize the meetup when John moved to CO and David joined the Iowa Startup Accelerator. Jesse Lane would later assume the role of Open Coffee Veteran.

This meetup is a minimally-guided conversation about anything rooted in creativity and entrepreneurship. Most conversations dig deep into what it takes to build a strong community, how to help others thrive, and a general tone of what we can do together to keep pushing the needle for Cedar Rapids and Iowa's Creative Corridor.

All are welcomed. There are no prerequisites to join!

We meet on the 2nd and 4th Friday every month at 8 am. We'll be moving to a new location at Roaster in NewBo City Market on June 23rd as we look to expand the group to be a true neighborhood conversation about the things that matter.

We look forward to seeing you there.
