Stepping back on the Wagon Trail to conquer Brasstown Bald one more time. The trail is one of three that leads to the highest elevation in the Brasstown Wilderness, the 4,784-foot (1,458 m) peak of Brasstown Bald, which is also the highest point in Georgia. On the Bald you’ll find picnic areas with great views and an observation deck that offers a spectacular 360° view of the surrounding area, including four states (GA, TN, NC, & SC) and if you’re lucky, the skyline of Atlanta!
Saturday weather forecast for Hiawassee looks good so far.
The first half of the hike is a long climb, but not super steep. We will take a lunch break for about 30 to 45 minutes at the tower, so bring at least some energy snacks, if not a light lunch, as well as plenty of your power drinks.
Total Hike Distance: Approx. 14.4 miles
Total Elevation Gain: Approx. 3,000'

This is a fairly long hike with significant elevation. If you have completed 10+ mile hikes with significant elevation gains, you should be fine, but please note that this is NOT A BEGINNERS HIKE. We try to maintain an average 3 to 3.5mph pace on our hikes.
There is usually a faster group and a slower group, and this is fine, but look out for each other. It is my hope and expectation that nobody ends up too far behind, or too far ahead.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Hike Georgia assumes no liability for Meetup events.
Dogs are welcome on this hike. I am not aware of any leash requirements on the trail, but there probably are at Brasstown Bald.
