"Veniimus, bibimus, knitimus." ("We came, we drank, we knit.")
-- The Drunken Knitwits, 2012-Present
The Drunken Knitifesto
We are the Newbury Drunken Knitwits, and we are knit-aholics. Sip by sip and stitch by stitch, we continue to pursue drunken, hand-cramping knit-thood, whereby all Knitwits have the holy grail of drunken knitting to show off to our friends: a hand-crafted item whose place, time, and method of construction cannot entirely be recalled. If you want to follow us on our path, we can show you the way...
NDK meet every Wednesday after work (from 5.30pm-ish - join whenever you can, knitwits drift in and out throughout the evening) at a different pub in Newbury. Bring along a yarny project, order a pint, and meet some knitwits!
Warnings and Disclaimers
1. You may have to unpick some knitting mistakes after attending a DK event; we suggest bringing simple projects to avoid this hassle.
2. We use the term "knit" roughly; if you prefer crochet, that's cool.
3. Drinking is optional; crafting is not.
The Knitwit Legacy
The Drunken Knitwits is a social knitting/crochet group originally founded in Oxford by Janey Messina in 2012. Since then, many members have joined, and knitted, and drunk, and some have moved on... There are now groups in Oxford, UK; Cambridge, UK; Manchester, UK; Newbury, UK; Dublin, Ireland; Boston, US; Philadelphia, US; Melbourne, Australia; Sydney, Australia; and Brisbane, Australia!!
We will start charging a membership fee to help with website and running costs once the group is more established.
