Mock Elections! First-Timers Welcome!
Mock Elections! Our volunteers will be trying to get us to vote for them by setting out their policies in the hope they'll persuade us that they are ones to lead us. First time? Great, we'd love to see you! Come and listen to us practicing our speaking skills and we'll offer you the chance to do the same with a little introduction of yourself. What happens on a usual night? Speeches - These are 7 minute speeches that people have prepared. These get evaluated so we can encourage and correct. Topics session of 2-3 minute speeches that we have to make up on the spot. One of our members picks the topics for the evening. These can be really fun because they're off the cuff, and it gives us practice at thinking on our feet! We also have a break for tea or coffee to get to know each other. This time we have Noel chairing the meeting, a Round Robin warm-up session, some speeches deferred from previous meetings by Barry, Jimmy and Sarah, and of course the Mock Elections, and in this respect so far we have the following campaigners: Barbara - candidate for The People's Bank; Helen - candidate for the People-Powered Renewable Energy Party. Watch this space for more candidates as and when they volunteer, – the audience will vote for the candidates, and it will be interesting to see who is elected to lead us forward post Brexit!! Noel will be chairing a Mini-debate – topic to be announced on the night, Monika will run the Topics session, and Lloyd will be general evaluator for the evening. Looking forward to seeing you all! Should be a fun night! The first two meetings are free, then if you like it we'll ask you to become a member to help cover the costs of the evening. This is only £40 for the whole year! A bargain!! What we're about

Does your stomach turn over when someone asks you to 'say a few words?'

Does your tongue get in a complete twist when you start to speak in front of a group of people?

If so, then Newport Speakers Club is the place for you! We can help you lose your fear of public speaking, and acquire the skills and confidence to speak effectively in any given situation.

We welcome total novices and those wanting to improve the way they communicate, and especially their listening and public speaking skills.

Many join us to improve their presentations at work, or because they have become president or chairman of an organisation and they have to chair meetings, introduce guest speakers, deliver votes of thanks etc. Others join because they have been asked to give a speech at a wedding or social function, or because they wish to improve their interview skills when applying for a job.

Whatever your reason for joining, you will learn in a friendly and happy atmosphere. It really is amazing how quickly even the most nervous and shy people can overcome their nerves and eliminate shyness in just a few months. They soon learn how to present themselves, start interesting conversations and become better hosts and guests. Those who play an active role in the club report that their overall life skills have improved and they feel happier in themselves.

We concentrate on the use of the voice and those who have a stammer have found this most helpful in improving their daily speaking.

We are affiliated to the Association of Speakers Clubs (ASC), an organisation with 100 clubs up and down the country that helps people develop and improve their communication skills. To learn more see website at (
