What we're about

We were originally the Alexandria Drummers, but have happily spread into the Fairfax area as well, sharing many Circles with our friends at the Fairfax Drum Circle! The purpose of this group is to promote health and wellness, community, creativity, and fun through music. If you are looking to have a great time and meet great people, this meetup is for you. Our sessions are very free-style, but we happily have several music teachers who regularly attend, so there is always a "lesson" at hand, and the rest is a rockin' free-style jam session. Come out and join us for a night of fun, community, and self expression. Music is a “universal language” that has been used for thousands of years as an avenue to healing. Research shows that music can be helpful in pain management, stress relief, mood improvement, and even brain stimulation and memory.

Drums have been used for centuries as a festive and ceremonial communication tool, and are considered the ‘instrument of the people”. All of life has an underlying rythmn that connects us to one another. Recalling the natural rythmns of our body, namely the beating heart. Drum circles help us connect with deeper rythmns and thus can help bring about optimal wellness.

Drum circles are a fun inclusive event in which participants make music together and share in a joy filled experience. The “feel good” chemicals that are released during such an experience can have a positive effect on your health. Participants may experience benefits similar to those of practicing yoga, aerobics, or meditation.

Friday Evening Drum Jam-FREE

Dana and Diane's

Hi drummers, You are invited to attend a drum circle at the home of our group members Dana and Diane. The session will begin around 7:30 and go until 10:30 or so (a little later if there are no complaints from neighbors). This will be an adult only session as light alcohol is welcomed (BYOB). There will be no fee for this session, so come on out, relax in a comfortable environment where you can kick your shoes off, make yourself at home, and drum until your spirit is happy. Hope to see you there! Feel free to bring your favorite snack to share with the group but it's not required.

End of Summer Bash! (Camping Optional)

Rockin' J Ranch

The 19th Annual Rockin' J Ranch Party is on Sunday Sept 1st at the ranch. The address is 40 Judge Rothrock Lane, Amissville, VA 20106 for the GPS and mapquest peeps. Be advised that if this is your first time here, the GPS may send you flying past the actual entrance/driveway. Once you are on Rt 642/Viewtown Road, go only 1.4 miles and look for the Judge Rothrock and Full Circle Equine Service signs on your right. Turn directly in front of the signs onto the gravel road and that is our driveway. Please bring your lovely selves, any friends that may make the party more fun, chairs, and a dish to share. We will have veggie burgers, beef burgers, hot dogs, and soda. Also wine and some beer. Bring anything special that will make your evening and ours more fun and exciting. Stream of consciousness participation is encouraged. Bring a musical instrument if you play one. We try and have a live jam and it is a blast. Party is on rain or shine. If you arrive after dark, look for the Full Circle Equine sign with some uplighting as an indication of where to turn. There aren't many/any street lights and it can be hard to find in the dark. There is space to tent camp and RV camp. Also there is some room in the house if you want that. Bring swimsuits, fishing gear, well behaved dogs. We have an automatic gate and the code will be 1234. There is a key pad as you approach the gate, you enter the code, and gate opens unto you. If you forget the code please call[masked] or[masked]. Please don't climb on the gate. That is a serious party foul. After you come down the hill you will go through the second gate, if any horse tries to come through with you, that is okay, just let us know and we can get them back where they belong. Park along the road after the 2nd gate. Looking forward to seeing all of you! Note from Dana: Feel free to bring a tent and stay the night ....Monday is a Holiday....let's spend it right! (a completely unintentional rhyme! :-)
