Lightening Talks and Social

Details

We're meeting for a couple of lightening talks by Brady Holt and Pierce Primm.

A Fresh Look at TypeScript: Brady Holt
You’ve been seeing more and more about TypeScript lately but you might not have given it a serious try. We’ll take a fresh look at this strongly-typed JavaScript superset and see what all the hype is really about and whether TypeScript makes sense for your next project. We’ll talk about the advantages it brings along with some of the more interesting features it has including generics, decorators, async/await, and developer tooling.About the speaker: Brady Holt is a developer at YNAB (You Need A Budget) and has been writing software for over 20 years. Most of those years were spent building web applications with C# and SQL Server but in the last few years he been having a ton of fun learning and building JavaScript apps with client-side frameworks and Node.js on the server. When he isn’t at work you can find him working on pet projects, playing with a Raspberry Pi, flying his drone or spending time with his family.

An Experiment with Cloud IoT and NodeJS for Raspberry Pi: Pierce Primm
This talk is based on a contest submission to DeepstreamHub that uses NodeJS on the Raspberry Pi, DeepstreamHub, CerebralJS, React and Material-UI to demonstrate how to use existing Cloud technologies (like DeepstreamHub) to create a custom solution for exposing IoT devices for Web access/control. The focus will be NodeJS on the Pi, but we'll explore all aspects of the project based on attendees questions and comments. This will be an interactive talk.About the speaker: Pierce has been developing production control and monitoring software for more than 25 years, is a host for several Tech meetups in Houston, currently works in Home Automation and takes on consulting projects. For fun, he does all the same things.

Come join us for these informal lightening talks and a social time to follow.
