What game development experience do you have, if any?

I've tinkered with game design and development for about 20 years. After BASIC on the BBC Micro Model B, I learned AMOS on the Amiga (and was even once featured on an Amiga Format coverdisk!), and have since dabbled in mobile development, browser games, etc. I have little artistic skill so I concentrate more on the "back-end" design - I'm particularly interested in game mechanics - I have a background in business and economics and have studied both "game theory" - studying how players behave in cooperative and competitive situations - and "gamification" - the application of game elements to non-game scenarios, such as the use of leaderboards and trophies in business settings. My interest in games extends beyond videogames - I've got a reasonable board game collection and enjoy playing games like Pandemic, Wiz-war, 7 Wonders, Carcasonne etc. For a brief time I found work as a professional games reviewer, and I still have friends in the industry.

What do you hope to get from these meetups?

- Ideas/inspiration - Contacts: as stated, I'm rubbish at art, so if there's some good local graphic artists I might be able to give them some work! - Motivation: my aim is to finally complete (and maybe even publish) one of the half-finished game designs that I've been working on for years. I'm hoping this might give me the kick to do it!

Hi, I'm a programmer/consultant/author/housedad, keen games player and hobbyist game developer/designer. I'm particularly interested in A.I./game mechanics and player behaviour in co-operative games.
