What we're about

We are a group of friendly hikers age 35-60ish who like to get out on the local trails and on some weekends plan hikes that are further away. On occasion, we might do something other than hiking, such as kayaking, or a social event together.

Do you like to get out and hike and want to make friends? Do you want to do so without having to wake up at the crack of dawn, having to worry about how fast the group is going to walk, or if you will be able to handle the miles? You have found the right group!

We will have local hikes in the evenings after work, and on weekends starting no earlier than 9 am, often 10 or 11 am. We will occasionally plan hikes further out on the weekends that might require you to get up earlier to make the drive out to wherever we are going.

We hike at a speed that everyone in the group can keep up with. However, you will need to be able to maintain an average pace of 2 MPH so that we can finish the trails in the allotted timeframe for the event. If you tend to hike at a faster pace than that, you need to be willing to slow it down for the group if we have someone going a bit slower. We will also pause every now and then to snap photos, grab some water, or just enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome to come on the trails that allow them. You must pick up after your dog, and carry it out off the trail.

We will post the difficulty and miles of each hike we do. We will ask everyone to read the description and make sure they will be able to do the hike without difficulty. If you are not sure, please reach out to us before signing up.

If you sign up for a hike, but then are unable to make it, or are running late, we ask that you change your RSVP, or contact the guide so we know you are not coming and the group is not waiting on you. Otherwise as a courtesy to everyone else; 'No shows' from previous events will be moved to waitlist on full events. Thanks for understanding.

Preachers Rock and Big Cedar Mountain hike 3.6 mi

Location visible to members

Preachers Rock and Big Cedar Mountain via AT from Woody Gap 3.6 Mile hike; we will actually go a little past Preachers Rock to another overlook. Hike has some great views at the top and is rated as moderate, but does have 600+ ft of elevation gain with some rocky sections so some fitness, trekking poles, and good hiking shoes are recommended. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Please Plan for appropriate Social Distancing, follow CDC Covid guidelines, and please do not attend if you are sick in any way. We will keep to average 2 mph pace so please plan on that range and sticking with the group.

Bring water for yourself, comfortable hiking shoes, and snacks if wanted. We will meet at the trailhead which is located off Rt. 60 North of Dahlonega, almost to Suches, GA. There is parking on both sides of the road and signage to mark Woody Gap/AT. Parking fills up quickly so recommend getting there a little early if you can.

GA-60, Dahlonega, GA 30533 (Woody Gap / Appalachian Trail in Google maps should get you there)
