Taming the Backlog Refinement Monster with Example Mapping by Adrian Galarza

Devs: Its done!

PO: No, its not what I asked for!

Devs: IT'S WHAT YOU TOLD US YOU WANTED!!!

Does this sound familiar?
> Do you find your Product Owner and Business Stakeholders sucked into frustrating and unhelpful arguments with the Developers because of disconnects around the intent behind backlog items?
> Do your Backlog Refinement sessions involve chasing squirrels into the weeds of analysis paralysis?
> Have your teams been resisting Backlog Refinement because it is more painful than quarantine without meal delivery and streaming?

If yes, our upcoming Meetup might be just what you need. In this Meetup, Adrian Galarza will conduct a hands-on workshop on a refinement method called Example Mapping that is derived from Behavior Driven Development and explore questions like...

> How can we make Backlog Refinement sessions less painful and more effective?
> How can our Agile Team collaborate to create a shared understanding of the desired outcome?
> Can we try a structured, step by step approach to avoid frustrating analysis paralysis in Backlog Refinement?
> What challenges might we face as we try this approach and what tips might help us overcome them?

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER - ADRIAN GALARZA (PSM-2, PSPO-2, SAFe POPM, etc)

Adrian Galarza is a US Army veteran, ex-Amazonian and MBA who is currently serving as Scrum Master for his teams of software developers (and as PO for one of those teams) at Capital One. He has previously worked in a variety of roles at major technology companies.

After serving in the military, Adrian earned an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. He joined Amazon after business school, where he led large teams of up to 700 associates and delivered multiple process improvement projects and culture changes aimed at getting your orders out to you as fast as possible. After Amazon, he found the wonderful world of Agile and has been here for the past 4 years. He credits servant leadership, open communication, and a culture of continuous improvement for his teams’ successes.

During his time off, he enjoys visiting countries many people have never heard of (only 57 so far) and trying their finest street foods. (Yes, he can't wait to get on a long 10+ hour flight again.)
