• An evening with Nic Ryan: Voted 1 of Top Voices on Data Science by Linkedin

    We are delighted to welcome Nic Ryan over from Australia. He is one of the top 10 influencers on data science as voted by Linked and brings a wealth of expertise and he’ll be joining us for the evening. Nic is a data science consultant who learned the ropes through online courses on his incredibly long daily commute. From starting off as a data science new kid he quickly moved to managing teams, and now runs his own data science consulting company. With the bewildering amount of learning resources and MOOCs available, the problem for the uninitiated is knowing where to start. Nic will discuss what portfolio of skills are required, how to develop these skills and also how to mobilise a team to successfully execute project data science projects. He’ll also run us through some of the potential pitfalls and share a wealth of experience on how to gear up for a data driven future. He’ll be following up his talk with a conversation with the audience. It’s a wonderful opportunity to speak to a data science professional operating at the top of his game. Someone who really understands the challenges associated with project data analytics. BIO Nic originally trained as and Actuary through the University of NSW, Australia. After a few years he found himself naturally being pulled towards data science through his passion for data and statistics. He gave in and made the switch to data science many years ago and has never looked back! Nic has spent many years in the trenches in data science and analytics departments. Before starting DataFriends, Nic was Head of Data Science managing 3 teams across 2 countries. Nic now has more than 22,000 followers on LinkedIn and was named among the LinkedIn Top Voices 2018: Data Science and Analytics. Nic is passionate at what he does and loves to share his enthusiasm with people. He does this by: - Writing extensively on analytics and startups. - He is regularly invited to speak at conferences, webinars, interviews and podcasts - he is fortunate to be connected with some of the best minds in the field Because of his unique beginnings, Nic has had the opportunity to work in diverse industries such as insurance, banking, agriculture, and online advertising and is therefore comfortable turning his hand to any industry. He has worked with some of the largest banks and insurance companies in Australia all the way down to small startups of 4, always helping them to drive value with data. While not doing data science Nic is a keen basketball player and surfer, still playing 3 times per week and surfing whenever he can. He is still waiting for the call up to his favourite NBA team!

    We are delighted to be able to deliver the launch event for the North West Project Data Analytics Meetup, bringing the hugely successful London meetup to our region. With a community of >2400, we are becoming a powerful force for positive change. Change that could transform how projects are delivered and unleash a new future for the profession. BIO: Martin Paver is a Registered Project Professional, FAPM and Chartered Engineer. In Dec 2017 he established the London Project Data Analytics meetup, which now has ~2300 members. He also set up Project:Hack, a community hackathon for advanced project data analytics. Martin has had a range of experience including leading a $billion project with a team of 220 and a multibillion PMO with a team of 50. He has a detailed grasp of project management and combines this with a broad understanding of recent developments in the field of data science. He is on a mission to ensure that the project management profession readies itself for a transformed future. Saurabh is a Project Director and Technical Director for Controls and PMO at Mott MacDonald. Having spent couple of decades in being part of the problem, he now dedicates his time solving complex project initiation and delivery problems through use of technology across major public and private infrastructure projects.
