Writing Critiques and Tips
We are writers (novels, novellas, and short story specific) who focus on helping other writers achieve goals by providing constructive criticism, creative writing tips and challenges, and motivating each other by accountability. What to bring: 1. Your masterpiece: Ten pages, double-spaced, one-inch margins. (You are not required to bring anything; you may come, listen, and see how we operate.) We critique in a group style, so be sure to bring copies for everyone. 2. Good attitude: Sometimes critiques are tough, but they make us better writers. We want you to be the best writer you can be! 3. Thinking cap: You are a writer and a reader, so you will provide a critique for another member. 4. Pen and paper: We may do a creative writing exercise. This is where you are allowed to write a piece of trash. No one is judging and you don’t have to share if you don’t want to. Note: We are not a poetry critique group. Critiquing poetry requires a very specific skill set that we do not claim to have. We welcome novels and short fiction of most varieties. If you have questions, please reach out to the organizers.

What we're about

North Texas Writers is a group of passionate writers (novels, novellas, and short fiction specific) who meet to discuss and critique works-in-progress. We work together to enhance our craft.

Weekly we have a writing tip or short discussion on technique, and we typically spend 10-20 minutes on a writing exercise to get the synapses firing. The majority of time is used for reading your masterpieces and offering/receiving constructive criticism ... to make us all better writers.

We will discuss a variety of writing tips and/or share what we've learned on the road to publishing. And we want to hear your lessons learned as well. This group is about community and sharing and learning from each other.

We meet in the Lewisville / Flower Mound / Highland Village area. Come join us!

We are not a poetry group. Critiquing poetry is a very specific skill set that we do not claim to have. We are specific to fiction (novels and short fiction). (
