CodeJam: Go 1.8 Release Party

Details

This CodeJam will introduce Go Programming Language (https://golang.org/) (aka Golang) with some hands on time along with a few short talks about how some of us are using it, how the language and environment works, and some examples of prominent software already written using it.

We are in CoLab on Level 3 in Pontio again!

This event is scheduled to coincide with the Go 1.8 Release Party (https://github.com/golang/go/wiki/Go-1.8-Release-Party) events planned for the version 1.8 release in February.

Prerequisites

You will need to bring a laptop capable of running Go, running either Linux, macOS or Windows. Please download (https://golang.org/dl/) and install (https://golang.org/doc/install) Go ahead of the event. There are installers for Windows and macOS and most modern Linux distributions have packages in their repositories under the "golang" name.

Optionally the Atom (https://atom.io/) text editor with the go-plus (https://atom.io/packages/go-plus) package is quite nice or the Visual Studio Code (http://code.visualstudio.com/) text editor with the Go Extension (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=lukehoban.Go). There's also the vim-go (https://github.com/fatih/vim-go) plugin for those inclined.

WiFi

Those of you that have done an induction at the Pontio Fablab can use your Fablab accounts to access Eduroam.

The public The Cloud (https://www.thecloud.net/) WiFi service is also available in Pontio.

There will be a number of us present from around 6pm in CoLab to assist with WiFi access and issues installing Go.
