The quiet, peacefulness, sound of the waves lapping against the boat, sound of the wind catching the sail, a sense of escape, a completely relaxed mellow feeling I have when back in the harbor, and the boat is put to bed. I have always loved the sound of the halyards tinkling in the harbor at night, like sailboat wind chimes :-)
Have been sailing for 10 years. Took classes from Sail Chicago. Did a live aboard trip in the BVI's with a group of 7 for a week, we chartered our own boat, provisioned and took turns cooking meals for each other. Did an across the lake trip to Michigan City, with the Sail Chicago group. Currently sail with a friend and his boat, a 35 O'Day out of Waukegan Harbor. I still have much to learn. I am eager and interested to sail with others!
I own a 17.5 ft. sea kayak and have paddled Lake Michigan and the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior.....not quite a sailboat, but just as quiet and also makes a great escape vehicle.
I love to sail and rarely pass up a chance if I can help it! I'd like to learn more about racing. My very first race we took first place. There were only 6 boats, & we had a crew of 2. All the credit to the Captain. (his boat and he has the trophy)
