Western Mass Wordpress - Accessibility and Wordpress

What we'll do

This meetup is open to anyone interested in Wordpress: newbies, developers, designers and administrators. All are welcome.

Agenda

• Current projects (20 minutes) - Introduce yourself, tell us what you are working on at the moment and what you are learning about.

• Problems and Solutions (30 minutes) - Bring us your current problems and we'll use groupthink to try to solve them. If you have a laptop to demonstrate your issue, bring it and we'll plug you into the projector.

• Wordpress and accessibility - Jared will discuss deficiencies in the Wordpress's accessibility and how they can be mitigated. How well does Wordpress, Wordpress themes and plugins comply with the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI)? If your Wordpress site is not fully accessible, it means its content can't be shared with the broadest number of people, meaning it may not be accessible to the hearing impaired, the legally blind or those with color impairments. Jared will discuss what the WAI guidelines are and how you can make your site more accessible, increasing its reach. (60 minutes)

What to bring

You may wish to bring a laptop to take notes or to share your screen on the projector. You may need a HDMI port if you want to share your screen.

Important to know

We're moved to new hopefully permanent space -- the inRESONANCE Building in Northampton's Industrial Park. We've also moved from our traditional time on the 3rd Thursday to 3rd Tuesday of the month, in hopes this will work better for more people.
