Redding Community CONTRA Dance is Saturday November 17th! Harvest Theme!
What is Contra? Contra dance is the contemporary American cousin to Scottish and English Country set dances. It's easy, very social and very fun. Imagine a dance from a Jane Austen movie, add some American energy, throw in some casual clothes, a few extra smiles, and you’ve got a Contra dance! Beginners are very welcome. If you are new or are bringing someone who is, please arrive by 7 pm to participate in the orientation/warmup instruction. Called dancing starts by 7:30 pm. Come give it a try! Each dance is taught and then called. By the end of the night you’ll have danced with almost everyone in the room. This is the Third Contra Dance this season, with live music by Curvy Road, and dances will be called by Lenore Frigo! (No Contra in December). Let's meet for some active socializing and learn how to Contra Dance or get better at Contra Dancing. Bring your friends and family this Saturday the 17th. Call or text Greg Smith at[masked] for more details. There is an admission fee of $8 for adults and $4 for students under 18 at the door. (This will help cover the cost of renting the hall, balance will be covered by the Redding International Folk Dancers.) Unless you are resting no one will be sitting during the night! Contra is an easy to follow group progressive dance with only a walking step directed by a caller! Meet with your friends and make brand new friends while getting a good 2 to 3 hours of exercise and dancing to music. Not sure if it is for you? Check it out and see. Your only investment is that of the cost of an $8-10 movie without all the popcorn and soda and very little sitting, if any at all! RSVP now and you will not be disappointed. Don't want to leave the kids with a babysitter? If they can walk they can dance too! Only $4.00 for your young dependents under 12 or full time students under 18. That is less than $2.00 an hour in lieu of a sitter. Dress them up too! Guaranteed to be fun! 7-10 pm Saturday the 27th at the IOOF/Rebekah Lodge 1 mile east of Deschutes Road in Palo Cedro. That is only a ten minute drive from downtown Redding. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. (drinking/bottled water will be available for $1) Come on your own, or as a couple or with family or friends. NO PARTNER NEEDED! (Even though it is considered a gender neutral partner dance) It is recommended that you not be shy by asking another person to be your partner for each dance. Come on out and join in the fun. You will not regret it, guaranteed! Take Hwy 44 East towards Lassen Park. Turn LEFT going North onto Silverbridge Road, one mile past the Deschutes Road exit. Turn right at the first road, Silverlode Lane. First driveway on the right. Everyone is welcome! If you like, you can bring finger foods, salty snacks or deserts for the refreshment tables or any non-alcoholic beverage with some throw-away cups to share.
