Please consider being the event host for this event. I will be participating but I will arrive by boat rather than foot.
I'll will get you a map from BLM and a verbal description of the route. It's fairly flat with great views.
I have the event page created. Edits are welcome.
Maybe you don't want to play in the boils, waves, and whirlpools but you can still
participate. You can hike in to Massacre Flat and camp overnight on the Sacramento River.
I worked on the Yana Trail's new route last winter. You can have amazing views of Lassen
and Shasta as you hike along the basalt rimmed canyon. You can go off-trail and search
for pieces of the flume that once connected Viola to Red Bluff. You can use Massacre
Flat as a base to explore up to Jelly's Ferry.
You can bring some lonely, hungry kayakers some cold beer, chili, and cake. Or come up
with your own menu - as long as it includes beer.
Massacre Flat has plenty of room. It has a very nice outhouse. No tables or bearboxes.
The name has a certain ring to it. Great place to spend an evening.
You can wave us Good Bye as we head off to the boils and whirlpools of China Rapid on
