How do you turn a journalist into a public speaker performing to sold-out audiences in one month?
You’ll hear the personal stories from two people who did this as journalists at Helsingin Sanomat, Finland’s biggest newspaper.
The event they were part of is called Musta Laatikko (Black Box), organized by Helsingin Sanomat, performed at the Finnish National Theater, and awarded as the Journalistic Act of the Year in Finland in 2018. At Musta Laatikko, each journalist gives an engaging 10- to 15-minute talk about one of their news stories.
Our guest speakers are:
- Jaakko Lyytinen, Journalist at Helsingin Sanomat. Speaker and producer at the Musta Laatikko event.
- Riikka Haikarainen, Senior Communications Manager at Aalto University. Former journalist at Helsingin Sanomat and speaker at the Musta Laatikko event.
They’ll give a 45-minute talk including a Q&A session, after which we’ll have our regular debate session by our club members (at Northern Stars, we do debate practice instead of Table Topics).
