LEARN ABOUT: Sensors and plant growth
Join us at this session to learn about how different types of sensors and sensing equipment can be used to track and measure plant growth. There will be a short talk or two from some experts in the field and plenty of time to discuss the challenges of using these technologies and potential ideas and projects to address these challenges. Please let us know if you have a plant-growth challenge that you would like to pitch to the group! All are welcome - experience with plants or sensors not essential.

    What we're about

Norwich Biomakers is a network of people with varied skills who share an interest in the cross-over of biology with technologies such as design, electronics, software, hardware engineering and art. Norwich Biomakers is a place to learn about the latest technologies and scientific advances, share ideas and skills and start new projects. We run two types of events: “Learn about” and “Try it out” sessions. Learn about sessions focus on learning about a specific subject or skill. Each session will have a specific theme but take the form of a talk and discussion, a scoping and planning workshop or a hands-on practical session. Past examples include plant-microbial fuel cells, 3D printing and genetic circuits. Try it out sessions are informal open sessions where people can discuss, plan or work-on projects as well as try-out some of our resources, projects and kits. Some sessions will focus on a specific theme or needs related to an ongoing project, but all are welcome to come along to do some self-learning, try a new skill or to join or start a new project. We have a variety of resources including Arduino kits and we can help connect you to others who may have expertise in the skills you want to learn.

Whether biology provides the question, the solution or the inspiration, as an interdisciplinary group we can explore together to generate new ideas, find solutions and most importantly, have fun!

Meetups are also a chance to get involved in shaping the direction of the group. Please let us know what your interests are and if there are specific topics that you would like to learn more about. Relevant external events and opportunities from the Norwich Research Park and beyond will also be shared through this meetup page.

Support of this meetup by OpenPlant is made possible due to funding from the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).
