Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay
"Bad Feminist: Essays is a 2014 collection of essays by cultural critic, novelist and professor Roxane Gay. Bad Feminist explores being a feminist while loving things that could seem at odds with feminist ideology. Gay's essays engage pop culture and her personal experiences, covering topics as diverse as the Sweet Valley High series, Django Unchained, and Gay's own upbringing as a Haitian-American." I believe there are 40 essays, broken up into 5 sections. No need to read them all. If anyone has favorite essays, or a favorite section, mention it in the comments and the rest of us can at least try to read the best ones.

    What we're about

This is a group for women who enjoy reading non-fiction books; books about social justice, current events, addiction, racial issues, and all types of political and social topics. We started by recruiting through SLO Progressives, but decided to move over to Meetup. Our past books have been The New Jim Crow, Between the World and Me, Ghettoside, among others.

This club's purpose is to promote intellectual curiosity, friendly debate, and drive for continuous improvement of both ourselves and our community through learning.

(The group has 50 member max, so please only join if you plan to attend one of the upcoming meetups. As soon as another member has not logged in for 2+ months we will make room for you.)
