For December we are running a STEAM / Code Club Special and we have five fab Speakers!

Tim Wilson - Code Club Midlands Coordinator:

Tim will be taking us through how Code Club works and how to get involved.

About Tim:

Tim is a facilitator and consultant with over 15 years experience working with a range of national and international clients across the creative, technology, digital and education sectors.

Tim work for the Raspberry Pi Foundation as Midlands Coordinator for Code Club, responsible for managing and growing the amazing community of clubs, volunteers and key partnerships across the West and East Midlands.

In a freelance capacity, other recent clients include Nextdoor helping them to establish in Birmingham as part of their UK launch and events/comms work for Birmingham City University.

Tim also co-organises Birmingham Raspberry Jam, manages the established monthly creative-technology Maker Monday event, co-runs Birmingham Likemind and is a STEM Ambassador.

John Read - Beeston Code Club Volunteer:

John will be sharing his experiences of volunteering at a local Code Club.

About John:

John started coding in the 1980’s on a Commodore Pet, Apple II and then BBC Micro and has been interested in computing, technology and coding ever since. He is a chartered civil and structural engineer leading a team for Arup in Nottingham. He helps to organise Beeston Raspberry Jam and volunteers with Code Club teaching children to code. He has been building his own PC’s and those for friends and family for many years and bought his first Raspberry Pi in 2012 as soon as they went on sale.

Katharine Childs - Code Club Programme Coordinator:

Katharine will be on hand to answer your questions about Code Club on the evening, including how Code Club works and how to get involved.

About Katharine: TBA

Paul Smith-Keitley - STEAM Curriculum Specialist:

Paul will talk about why STEAM education is so important and why project based learning leads to better outcomes and how technology supports this.

Paul will also be bringing an assort of robots, drones, VR and coding kit for people to gain hands on experience!

About Paul:

Paul has an in depth knowledge of Curriculum Planning and Development, with specialism in creative uses of technology (Paul did STEAM long before it became a thing) Computer Science, Robotics, AI, VR/AR and project based experiential learning.

Paul was a winner of a competitive NSF grant for exemplary school technology program (1 of 10 in the entire US invited to present at MIT) 4 times winner of Upstate NY EdTech challenge.

Paul is also a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert and Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. Professor in Practice, University Centre Shrewsbury.

Anja Keitel-Campsall - Family Learning Officer - Coventry Transport Museum:

Anja will be talking about her role at Coventry Transport Museum and how she helps them to introduce children of all ages to STEAM activities

About Anja:

Anja is the Family Learning Officer at Coventry Transport Museum and responsible to introduce families to the wonders of the Museum’s collection and spaces generally as well as related fun and educational family activities specifically. Anja has got a keen interest in child development and child play which she was able to research further in her MA dissertation on Play in Museums. While an always curious maker at heart, Anja’s love of STEM, STEAM and the Maker Movement flourished truly in her role at Coventry Transport Museum.
