Public speaking can be an ordeal for many people. Whether it’s a job interview, your best man’s speech, a big presentation at work, motivating the local Brownie pack, the father-of-the-bride speech, defending your PhD thesis, or running for Parliament, the idea of standing up in front of others and vocalising your thoughts can be a daunting prospect!
Help is to hand!
Nottingham Speakers’ Club is a warm, friendly, welcoming bunch of people **just like you,** who come together to overcome the challenges of speaking in public, improve our technical skills and conquer our nerves, fears and insecurities along the way.
We help you prepare, present and perfect your ideas, your passions and your ambitions. We offer you loads of advice, encouragement and support as you progress. Each one of us has been on our own journey and the club is a safe, relaxed and positive space in which to bolster your skills, self-confidence and self-esteem.
With a structured programme of activities and exercises that focus on particular aspects of public speaking, as well as a peer group feedback session that will highlight your progress and give you tips to get even better, you’ll see improvements from your first time with us.
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is come along and walk through the door – you’ll get a warm welcome! And we think our venue is just right for those nervous about public speaking: it’s a few steps from the bar and right opposite the loo!
Be a part of the future of Nottingham Speakers' Club and the regional and national organisation too!
The following roles are up for election:
* Education Officer
* Social Events
* Marketing and Social Media
We're also throwing open the meeting to your ideas, your feedback, your thoughts and your inspiration. What do you want to achieve this year? How can the club help you get there? And how can *you* make it happen?
Nottingham Speakers’ Club works with individuals on public speaking: the techniques, the tips, the way to communicate your thoughts and passions with an audience. We help you achieve this confidently, effectively and individually.
We work through a series of assignments to help you master the basics of public speaking: building a rapport with your audience, constructing a speech, using words and vocabulary, using your physicality, and mastering your own voice.
Beyond that, we strive to help you develop an individual voice, a way of communicating that suits your personality and your needs. We explore the psychology behind public speaking and the science that lies behind how effective a speaker is. We discuss examples of good technique, and make use where we can of the latest research, technology and technique to make you the most effective speaker you can be.
Along the way, we work on self-confidence, self-esteem and other aspects that people feel hold them back. Our members provide a warm, supportive environment for everyone to find their voice, and go from being fearful of “saying something” to relishing the opportunity to have something to say.
We value encouragement, a safe atmosphere, camaraderie, peer learning, constructive improvement and offer opportunities for practice, small-group learning, and a very individual approach. And we do it all with a sense of humour!
Do come along and join us! Doors open at 7.15pm, meeting starts 7.30pm prompt.
