See all- Guilt-Free PleasuresGuilt-Free Pleasures, Hucknall
Guilt-Free Pleasures is 100% vegan and gluten-free bakery and cafe in Hucknall. It gets fabulous reviews on HappyCow and all its local customers seem to love it - for taste, appearance, price and service! A must-visit. It's more takeaway than sit-in but they do have a couple of tables and we've been invited to come on a Saturday at 1pm and they will stay open after their usual closing time of 2pm just for us, which is very nice of them.
They have a Facebook group but no functioning website and do not have a menu online, and I'm having trouble getting one sent, but there are some previous photos I will add below. Based on various sources they do or in the past have done:
- hot and cold breakfasts and lunches
- other 'breakfasty' menu items
- savoury meals, pizza rolls, cheese straws, smoothie bowls
- sticky tofu with dip and rice, tofu and noodle satay, cottage pie in a sweet potato
- snacks, peanut butter cups
- desserts such as cakes and bakes, brownies
- protein waffles, protein pancakes, protein flapjacks
- treat bags containing 6 sweet items
- range of hot drinks and smoothies
- large range of plant milks
- some vegan supplies
which I think is enough to promise a really enjoyable visit! Lots of photos on FB and HappyCow of particular food items to tempt you.
Please note there is no toilet there, so it's a case of going before or after or finding a nearby toilet. Apparently however there is street parking nearby, and for public transport both the tram and the Threes [C] bus are very useful. That weekend is Vegan Campout time so we will miss a few people but hopefully enough of us will be left to have a good event.
- Crocus Cafe evening mealThe Crocus Cafe, Nottingham
Let's visit the Crocus Cafe for its all-vegan weekend evening menu. It has a different regional cuisine theme each week, which they decide on the Tuesday so we won't know what it is till then. The menu is based on 'small plates' each of which costs £5 to £7. You can have a decent meal with two plates or go for more, perhaps sharing with others. They also have desserts and lots of types of drinks: hot, soft, alcoholic, smoothies etc. Last orders are at 9pm and closing time at 10.
The cafe is a community one, based on volunteer labour, but subsidised and with professional chefs who create imaginative vegan versions of traditional dishes. You can find out more on the website, Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter. Since we will be putting in orders together on one menu sheet per table it will be important to identify who's ordering and paying for what.
As with other meal events that are booked with specific numbers or where seating space is limited, I ask that you please make an effort to attend if you sign up, and change your RSVP to No if you no longer can. Unfortunately there has long been a problem with no-shows in this group, and repeat offenders will be removed from it.
- Sea & Earth chippy - picnic in the parkSea and Earth, Nottingham
The Sea and Earth fish and chip shop in Woodthorpe is particularly vegan friendly, with an entire separate vegan menu besides the meat one, separate fryers for the chips etc. I thought we could try it out at a Saturday lunchtime in the summer and go and have a chippy picnic in a local park.
Vegan menu items include battered fake fish made from banana blossom (in photo), mock scampi, plain or battered sausage, vishcake, vegan chicken, mushy peas, beans, fritters, and even deep fried battered Oreos for dessert. Plenty to choose from, and maybe we can buy a variety and share.
If you'd like to join me sign up below - no limit or booking required. We might like to bring other things like blankets, napkins, cutlery, drinks. The event will be rather dependent on weather, unless we can find a sheltered spot.
What park? Well the shop is near two parks, Arnot Hill Park (nearer, smaller, more interesting with different things in it) and Woodthorpe Grange Park (larger, but mostly a rectangular lawn with a nice building at the end of it). I'll leave it to attendees to decide which we're going to!
