August PASS East Midlands Meetup

August PASS East Midlands Meetup

Details

For August we're lined up 2 big names in SQL Server speaking. Rich Douglas (http://sql.richarddouglas.co.uk/, @SQLRich) andMark Broadbent (https://tenbulls.co.uk/, @retracement)

Mark will be speaking on Schizophrenic High Availability, which he says:"Abstract:As SQL Server and Windows availability solutions have reached maturity, their capabilities and interoperability has grown to such an extent that it is no longer clear what technologies to use, when to use them, what they deliver and when things can go wrong.

In this session we will take a look at some of the new features provided by SQL Server and Windows 2016, how existing high availability solutions can benefit from their adoption and when schizophrenic HADR can be bad idea!"

Rich will be presenting his "Investigate TempDB like Sherlock Holmes" session, which he describes as :

"The system database TempDB has often been called a dumping ground, even the public toilet of SQL Server. (There has to be a joke about spills in there somewhere). In this session, you will learn to find those criminal activities that are going on deep in the depths of SQL Server that are causing performance issues. Not just for one session, but those that affect everybody on that instance.

In this session, you will learn how to architect TempDB for better performance, how to code for better performance and much more."

We'll be running to our normal schedule:

Doors and intros: 18:00-18:30

Session 1: 18:30 - 19:20

Break for Food: 19:20-19:40

Session 2: 19:40-20:30

And as always, there may be a trip to a local hostelry should any members want one.
