What we're about
Ahavat Torah is a small and spirited congregation that comes together for soulful prayer, thoughtful discussion and joyous singing. We are a warm and welcoming Jewish community interested in turning Torah into hope and social action.
Located in Brentwood, near the 405 Freeway off Sepulveda Blvd. and Montana, Ahavat Torah has attracted Jewish men, women and families from Southern California since 2003. Individuals who grew up Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, Secular and Unaffiliated come to Ahavat Torah to join our lively, non-judgmental and inspiring Jewish community.
In addition to weekly Shabbat Services, there is a weekly Shabbat Mussar or Jewish Ethics class taught by Rabbi Miriam Hamrell, the Founding and Senior Rabbi, and our Rabbinic Interns, Florence Dann and Greg Metzger.
Gary Levine and Kimberly Haynes are our Cantorial Soloists.
We have an Adult Bat/Bar Mitzvah Program
Our Social Action Projects have included blood drives, Adopt-A-Family, American Jewish World Service, Beyond Coal Campaign, Children's Institute, Jewish World Watch, SOVA Food Bank, Special Arts Festival for Disabled Children.
We are a Green, Eco-Friendly Congregation.
We have Theater Parties, a Book Club, Movie Club, Salons with Poets & Artists, Shabbats on the Beach, and Interfaith Events & Partners.
We celebrate Jewish holidays like the High Holy Days, Pesach, Hanukkah, Purim, TuB'shvat, Sukkot, Shavuot and more!
