O.C. Gay Men's Book Club

On August 20th Gay Men who identify as conservative, right of center, libertarian, or heterodox will gather to share alternative views and make a space for Gay thought crime. You may be born Gay but there’s a good chance you were not born on the political left. This is especially true for Gay Men growing up in Orange County (And pretty much anywhere in America outside of a few big cities). We are here to make it easy for Gay Men to find their people, regardless of politics.

For August we are reading “Ravelstein” by Saul Bellow. Join us if you would like to experience lively discussion and lovely company!

For the month of August we have selected the book “Liarmouth” by John Waters. Please read or listen to the book ahead of time and come prepared to share your thoughts with us.

(If we reach a group size of 16 or more I recommend breaking into two groups for improved intimacy and ability to hear. Usually this will mean two groups of 10-12 people each. I won’t be heartbroken if we don’t do this, I just think the conversations have been really good, and it recaptures some of the intimacy that makes OC Gay Men’s bookclub worthwhile —Sam)

We meet at Urth Cafe, in the alley by the Starbucks. Urth cafe has a variety of food and drink options (see the menu here: https://www.urthcaffe.com/orange). There is free parking on adjacent streets surrounding the Orange Circle. There is also a Parking Structure on Maple and Lemon. Every month, some group members come early to grab a brew at Provisions Cafe (143 N Glassell St.)
