Food, Fun, Friends


Do you remember the summer picnics from years gone by? Remember how you enjoyed the food, the fun, and the friends? Do you miss those? So do we. That's why Friends of Freethought is excited to announce our first ever Freethought Picnic! This free, family-friendly event is sure to become a summer favorite.


Families, friends, and individuals are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch, grab a blanket, some sunscreen, a frisbee (or anything else that tickles your summer fancy) and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the sun. Leashed and well behaved family dogs are also welcome.


Southern California freethought, skeptic, and atheist groups are invited to set up a table or booth and promote their organization. Groups should plan a fun summer picnic activity to host from 2:00 to 3:00. Please contact Friends of Freethought to let us know that you're coming and what activity you'd like to host. We'll include your group in our promotional materials and on our website. Also, we'll ensure that groups select a unique activity to host so that 5 different groups don't all host an egg-toss.

Schedule of Events


• 11:00 Food & Social Time — Bring your lunch and relax in the sun while chatting with fellow freethinkers. Two grills will be available on site if you wish to BBQ a masterpiece. If you and your friends feel up for some physical activity, there are volleyball, basketball, and racketball courts, as well as baseball fields near the picnic site.


1:00 Journeys to Freethought — Most of us have our own de-conversion story. They're always interesting to hear. A few local freethinkers will share their journeys from faith to freethought. In addition, freethinking musician Buck Bowen will provide live entertainment.


2:00 Group Fun Time — Enjoy a variety of free, fun summer picnic activities hosted by Southern California freethought/skeptic/atheist groups. Whether it's finger painting, a sack race, or a pie eating contest, you're sure to find something to enjoy.
