I believe Ubuntu for phones isn't out till 2014.
If you can't wait till then you should flash CyanogenMod(
http://www.cyanogenmod.org/) on your phone. It's still Android but the good thing is that the phone manufacturer can't force you to upgrade to a newer phone when they stop releasing software updates for your model.
I am now running CyanogenMod 9.1.0(Android 4.0.4) on my Galaxy S and it's much better than Android 2.3 which the phone came with.
I don't think you can use it on Iphones though.
