Speaker: Dan Robert

Topic: An introduction to extensible effects. What are they? How are they used? What benefits might they provide in purely functional programs?  Practical implications will be demonstrated in Scala, but overall concepts are language agnostic.

About Dan: Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dan started his professional career working remotely for Oseberg. At Oseberg, he works on data pipelines designed to stream in large quantities of data from many different data sources.  Functional programming has proven to be a crucial aspect of keeping these systems maintainable and reliable. But, practical implications aside, Dan also loves to occasionally venture into the philosophical underpinnings of functional programming, where demons await to engulf you in an eternal recursion of abstractions upon abstractions and you emerge as a shell of a man, convinced free will is an illusion and time is indeed a flat circle.
