Join ONA Philly and the Lenfest Institute at 7pm on April 25 at the Pen and Pencil Club for a discussion of best practices around email newsletters.
Newsletters have become one of the most important publishing platforms for news organizations. As an increasing amount of news consumption occurs through platforms such as Facebook and Google, email has enabled publishers to reach readers directly.
The informal, moderated discussion will feature Matt Kiser, founder of What the Fuck Just Happened Today, a daily newsletter that tracks the goings on of the Trump administration; Ashley Woods; founder of Detour, a newsletter-based local news startup in Detroit; Aubrey Nagle, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s newsletter editor; and Eva Scazzero, Quartz’s associate product manager overseeing newsletters, will also be joining the panel. The Lenfest Institute's Joseph Lichterman will moderate the conversation.
Matt, Ashley, Aubrey, and Eva will discuss why newsletters are critical for publishers and share tips and best practices for how to grow your email lists, improve open rates, and think about your newsletters’ content.
