Power up Your Email Newsletter!

Details

Add a sparkle to your work or personal newsletter by polishing up your quantitative knowledge of email performance! Learn what Harvard's research has shown attracts readers to newsletters owned by local and nonprofit media outlets. Find out how your newsletter can be a "welcome guest" in your readers' in-boxes.

Caroline Porter, publisher at RALSTIN in Los Angeles, will lead the conversation. She studies newsletter performance in partnership with the Shorenstein Center on Media, Politics and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. Previously, she has been a reporter at The Wall Street Journal and has taught at Medill School of Journalism. She has a graduate degree in multimedia journalism from University of Ulster.

Caroline's research focuses on small news outlets. She will also talk about how to create a personal newsletter to showcase your work.

Here's a quote from a panel presentation that Caroline gave at WordCamp for Publishers this August:

"We’ve been doing a deep dive on newsletters. There are... different ways newsletters function in email. Think of [newsletters as being in] a living room. You as a reader invite them into your living room - your in-box. What kind of guest do you want to be? What kind of story do you want to tell? I think that becomes really kind of fun when you think about your value proposition.”

Dinner will be provided by Online News Association.
