What we're about

This meetup group provides a networking community for Ohio State University Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) alums to:

• Be involved in the university and the ECE Department in meaningful ways

• Stay up-to-date on the activities and progress of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

• Share professional experiences and opportunities in our fields

• Recollect about the "good old days" on campus

This group will enjoy a balance of activities involving campus tours, academic and research demonstrations, and professional and social networking amongst alums.

STEM Volunteer Opportunity

Genoa Park

As Electrical and Computer Engineers, we have an innate interest in technology and most likely a desire to spread the word among the next generation of Engineer youth. Fortunately, the OSU Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has a STEM Outreach All Star in Professor Betty Lise Anderson. Since Prof. Anderson has started her K-12, hands-on-experience program, her efforts have reached over 20,000 prospective future Engineers to spark their interest and demystify Engineering concepts (https://www.ece.osu.edu/about/outreach and http://www2.ece.ohio-state.edu/~anderson/Outreach.html). Prof. Anderson has expressed a need for volunteers to assist in two of her biggest events this May in the Columbus area. Volunteers are needed to assist kids in completing their project and witness them being amazed that they were able to create something from scratch that demonstrates Engineering principles. Hopefully, with this experience, an opportunity in Engineering, or other STEM career field, is an opened up as a possibility for them. The May 4th event will be part of the COSI Big Science Celebration. We will be manning a booth, and 700-1,000 kids will come by and do a hands-on jumping jacks activity (http://www2.ece.ohio-state.edu/~anderson/Outreach_JumpingJack.html). We will need four or five people for each hour. Volunteers will help demonstrate the activity and spread the love of STEM! Please see https://alumnigroups.osu.edu/ece/event/volunteer-opportunity-cosi-big-science-celebration/ to follow the registration link to sign up for as many hours as you can assist. (No RSVP is needed from the meetup.com event.)
