What we're about
Hello and thanks for checking out the Oakland Stitch & Bitch Meetup Group!
We're here to connect fellow crochet, knitting, and sewing enthusiasts in the Bay Area, and to make new friends! Fiber artists of all skill levels (though please note this is not a class), are invited for a cup of tea, a friendly conversation, and plenty of support and help with their work. We meet weekly, every Tuesday night from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. (Come when you want, leave when you want!) We've been going strong for over seven years now, and we know you will enjoy our group. And don't be fooled by low RSVP numbers: our regular members don't RSVP on-site much anymore, but the group is normally between 10 and 20 people! We hope to see you soon!
About membership dues:
Membership "dues" are treated more like "suggested donations", and are 100% optional. Don't worry if you can't pay every time, or if you can't pay at all - we want everyone to feel welcome! Also, if you don't want to pay your $5 automatically each month via Meetup's system, feel free to bring a single dollar to each Meetup you attend, give it to the organizer, and let them know you prefer to pay cash so she can mark you exempt from dues online.
If you're wondering why we ask for donations, we use it to pay our website fee to be here on Meetup. This site costs around $20.00 per month, and that really adds up! But it's totally worth it because of all the lovely new people who find us here! Also, our new location treats us really well and the staff is super awesome. Most in-person cash donations end up as tips for them. If there's anything left over it is squirreled away for special events!
About the new Berkeley Branch:
Our fearless leader has finally opened the yarn, fabric, and craft supply shop she's been dreaming of for longer than this group has been around! There will now be a Thursday night Stitch & Bitch (Something people have been asking for for years!) that meets every week from 6-9 p.m. just like the original, but it is located inside The Black Squirrel! Complimentary tea and a few snacks will be provided, and there's lots of to-go dining options along 4th Street that can be brought along. Also all attendees get a 10% discount off any purchases if temptation proves too great, and the shop's classroom space is stocked with tools, so if you forget your scissors or break a needle, no worries! See the Meetup event in this group for details!
