Swimming in any kind of open water (lakes, rivers, oceans) can be daunting and scary but it doesn't have to be. Open water swimming is the most natural and beautiful way to use your swimming muscles. This group is designed to get you out of the pool and into the ocean.
Open water swimming, especially in the ocean, is different from swimming in the pool and can seem overwhelming at first. It is important to know how to read the water, enter and exit safely, and deal with the conditions of the swim.
This group requires that you know how to swim and that you can swim at least 500 meters non-stop in the pool. This group is good for those who wish to compete in a triathlon or open water race or who want to improve their open water swim performance. My goal is to make you feel comfortable in the open water and give you an opportunity to improve your swimming.
I am an ITCA certified triathlon coach and have been doing open water swims for the last 15 years. I have competed in all distances of triathlon in a variety of swimming environments. Open water swimming is my favorite part of triathlon and I look forward to sharing my excitement and passion with you. I DO ask everyone to sign waivers at their first swim since we will be swimming in a natural environment and open water swimming is a dangerous sport.
