Ohio State Fair Evening Photo Meetup

The famous Ohio State Fair is the best state fair, don't miss it or even be late. It's dollars to donuts that the Ohio State Fair is the best state fair in our State! or so goes my version of the opening song to the "State Fair" musical.  Think of all the lights, the colors, the Midway, the livestock, the foods, and much more that you can photograph!  We will meet at the Kroger's Parking Lot in Mason near Kings Island in order to carpool to the Fair.

Cost: If you car pool the recommended donation to the driver is $30 for 2 riders  and $20 for 3 riders, to cover mileage and parking.  Let me know in the Comments if you can be a driver.

Get your ticket in advance at Krogers or AAA and save $4 off the price (we'll be a Krogers right?). Prices are $10 for adults, $8 for Seniors 60+, and $6 if bought in advance.  Parking is $5.

Schedule:

4:45 pm  Meet in Kroger Parking Lot & get aligned with drivers

5:00 pm  Leave for Columbus

6:30 pm  Arrive Columbus at Fair ()

9:00 pm  Leave for return trip to Krogers

10:30 pm Arrive Krogers

11:00 pm  Arrive at your homes

Other:

Address: Ohio Expo Center, 717 E. 17th Ave., Columbus, OH 43211 (take I-71 North to 17th Avenue/Exit 111. Signs and parking attendants will direct guests to the proper parking areas)

State Fair Link: Ohio State Fair Home Page

State Fair Site Map: State Fair Map

I will have a color map of the Fair grounds for those who are going; and those traveling in the same car will exchange cell phone numbers and agreements on where to meet for the return home.  Once we get there it would do well to travel together in smaller groups based on interest.

Sounds like fun. Maybe again next year?

Well organized (as usual)! And I appreciated the extra hour. Thank you, Fred.

It was an absolutely beautiful evening at the State Fair and a photographer's smorgasbord of photo opportunities. Traffic going in was as good as I could have hoped for taking 15 minutes from I-71 to inside the fair. We saw all kinds of things to photograph from the expected, the absurd (Brillo pad clothing), to the slice of carnival life. Ended staying an extra hour - too much to see! Worth doing if you have never been.

Glad you had a good time! Got to say, the opera was fabulous, too!

If you go be sure to check out the art exhibit. I had 3 pieces juried in this year and received notification that I'll be receiving an award for one of my prints! I'll be up there Tuesday night for the reception.

Just remember 2-3-4: When you bring 2 canned food items per person to a booth outside the gates, you’ll receive a voucher good for $3 admission before 4 pm. All food donations will go to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank.

State Fair or Opera, now there is two di-opposing outings! Sorry for the weeknight but it will be cooler and I am going the following weekend on a reunion.

Just bad timing--other weeknights might have worked. Peter, I have a friend who usually is a super. I think that would be fun. Surprised they'd let you photograph much there--usually all that stuff--costumes, set design, etc.--usually has rights restrictions.

All back hall, dressing room stuff, nothing on stage. More than one super with a camera or phone. They know we do it as staff will pose with supers. Of course, nothing published either.

I am going to look at my schedule at work to see if I can get off early. I would love to go.

I'm with Connie. Butterfly is the opera and I have tickets too. Otherwise very tempting.

Sounds like a good outing, but I have an opera ticket for that evening.
